Stressed? Treat Yourself!

change

Stress comes whenever it wants to. I’m sure if you take a moment you will be able to think of a time where you have felt so much stress or felt like you wanted to give up. If you are having trouble thinking of a time you felt this way lucky you! But seriously let me help you out… wondering if people were going to like you at school, meeting deadlines at work, being stuck in traffic and being late, and I could go on and on. Still  think you don’t have stress? It is a part of life, but it is one that we also need to learn to manage.

I am a major advocate for hitting the “pause” button. It can be hard, trust me I am dealing with it right now, but it can be done. What do I mean by hitting pause? Well, I mean take time out for yourself. Do something you love. Go meditate. It doesn’t really what it is as long as you take a break. Taking 15 minutes for yourself or even half an hour is not going to make the world implode. In fact it might make the world feel a little less stressful. Sometimes that small break will make a huge difference in how you view the situation. It is like coming back with a fresh set of eyes and a new outlook.

There is nothing wrong with taking a step back and allowing yourself to just breath. There is no reason that you have to deal with every single situation right there and then. Yes, that might seem a little more difficult in some work environments but it can be done. Something as simple as straightening your back, placing your feet evenly on the ground, and taking several deep breaths can help. Or going for a walk on your break. This may sound a bit absurd but every little moment that you can take for yourself will make a difference. You don’t need a reason or excuse to go and do something you enjoy when you feel stressed. There is no need for you to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, place that weight down and go take a break.

When you take time out to do something you enjoy it will automatically begin to relieve some of the stress you are dealing with. I personally enjoy writing 😉 or baking, or working out. Yes going for a jog or just exercising in general is a great way to destress. It is like free therapy!Whatever you choose to do make sure it is something you enjoy. If you are taking a little time out to just be happy that will begin to spread into other areas of your life. When you being to put yourself as priority, even for 15-30minutes, you will start to see a change. Things wont seem as bad and you will begin to see things in a different light. Don’t get me wrong you may still feel a bit like Chicken Little (the sky is falling! sound familiar) but each time you are faced with a new obstacle it won’t seem as bad. Just give yourself a break.
