“Curvy” Girl Revolution
For those of you who do not read Sports Illustrated a major thing has happened…they have included a “Plus sized” model in one of their ads. She is not on the cover, they chose a sized 12 model (which the still consider plus sized) for the cover but still is a great step forward. In case you were not aware, the average size of a women in the US is 14… in the modeling industry size 8-18 is considered plus sized. That doesn’t seem right does it? The fact that sports illustrated had an average sized women IN their magazine is major and a little sad. I mean why should showing an average sized woman be major news? Well, it shouldn’t and one day it won’t be, but at least this is the first step in the right direction.
The reason I am even bringing it up is because not only is this a great move in the right direction, but Ashley Graham (the model) is a wonderful voice for all of us who are curvy. She is shattering the myth that you have to be thin to be healthy and showing that curvy girls can be fit too. If you haven’t seen the article on her or the video click here. It is just exciting to me because finally people are starting to say enough is enough, and the media is listening! Slowly but surely they are realizing that people are tired of only seeing one body type being portrayed in all of their ads etc.
We need to remember that it doesn’t matter what shape we are as long as we are happy and healthy. There is no right our wrong shape to be. You should never feel that you should look like someone in an ad because the truth is you only need to look like YOU. You are amazing just like you are and I will keep writing it over and over until that starts sinking in. There is NO pant size that everyone should be and certainly no Weight everyone should be. WE are all different shapes and body types. We are not all the same but what we do need to focus on is making sure we are healthy. I will never be a size 0 and I am okay with that. I will never weight 115 pounds and that is fine with me because when I tried being that weight I looked horribly sick. It does not fit my body type, and it just doesn’t fit me! Don’t try to look like someone else, the world already has one of them. What the world needs is someone like you….exactly how you are.
You are More Amazing than you know
You are amazing…end of story.
