Don’t Worry, Be Happy…or atleast Distract Yourself
It is Thursday and the day of the week that I write about stress. Why do I do this? Because leading a healthy lifestyle is not all about being able to do a million sit ups in 2.5 seconds. Leading a healthy lifestyle means finding balance between diet (as in what you eat…not those fad things), exercise, and life in general! If one of these aspects are off-balance it will create a domino effect in other aspects of your life.
I personally feel that stress is one of those things that unless you find a way to control it, it will just go out of control. Yet, it is something that if you catch early enough you may be able to manage it a little better. I am guilty of allowing my stress to get me into a tailspin, but I am getting better at recognizing it. Now, whenever I feel stress I find an outlet. Yes, do what you love to do it will reduce your stress. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) says that the best thing to do during hard times is to manage your stress. They make it sound so easy! But what they do point out is that you must practice “Self Care”. So what in the world does that mean?!
Well, it means that you should eat healthy (we do that pretty well), exercise regularly (you are reading a blog about cupcakes and fitness, you are a rockstar!), and to give yourself a break.
That last part to me is one of the hardest things to do!. We always feel like we need to take on the world, but we really don’t. I feel almost like a broken record, but seriously taking time out for yourself is extremely crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If you start to feel like things in your days are beginning to overwhelm you just take a moment to pause. Evaluate what needs to be done right at that moment and what can be put of until later or even tomorrow. By prioritizing and moving tasks around you can create time for yourself. Once you create that time do something that makes you happy. For me it is baking or going for a jog, and on some occasions sitting in front of the xbox. Whatever you choose to do with the extra time…make sure it is all about you. It is hard enough trying to deal with the crazy twists and turn life throws your way…you deserve time to just sit back and focus on you.
No matter what gets thrown your way remember that you matter. There will be things in your life that need to be done right then and there, but not everything. Take a moment to figure out the difference between the two and that will open up more time for you. Take the time to sit back and do something that will make you happy. Who knows, it may even help you get a new perspective on what was stressing you out in the first place. Either way, just know that you deserve a break…your health depends on it.
