Exercise of The Week: Dumbbell Overhead Tricep Extension

overhead extension

This week we are going to have a little fun with dumbbells. Don’t be afraid of using weights in your workout…you wont get bulky! It was hard finding a good picture to show how to do the move, but this one will have to do. This exercise is fairly easy to do, and is one of the ones you can do in the comforts of your own living room. If you are just starting out I recommend starting with 5 lbs and working your way up. You want to make sure that you begin at a weight that is comfortable for you.

Start off with your feet shoulder-width apart and your back straight. Raise your dumbbell over your head like in picture A. Without moving your upper arms (you may feel the tendency to move them forward, but don’t) lower the dumbbell behind your head. Hold it there for 4 seconds like in B. Then straighten them back out and return to position A. That’s it! That is one rep. Do 2 sets of 10 reps.

See that wasn’t hard at all! No need for all this fancy equipment. All you need is a set of dumbbells and a little time and you are all set! Good Luck!

About Eunice

I like to joke that I am "a well of useless information" but for once I can share that information with people that might want to listen. I love trying new things and now I have an audience to share it with...hopefully. I hope you enjoy what you read :)
