Forget Skinny. Be Strong Instead.


It feels like people equate trying to be fit and healthy with being skinny. Even fitness magazines seem to express the same thing. Half the magazine says “love your body just how you are”  and the other half says “lose 15 ponds in 2 weeks”. This is not a message that I can get behind. I believe getting healthy means eating better, adding working out to your week, having a healthy BMI and focusing on a healthy mind as well. It is not healthy to become obsessed with the scale and the numbers that it says. Different body types can weigh the same and carry it differently (wrote about that here). What is a healthy weight for one person is not healthy for another. For example I will never weight 110 pounds and never want to. I am 5’2″ and am bit curvy, once I get below 124lbs I begin to look sickly.

The point I am trying to make is that yes being at a certain weight can help you get on the right path for a healthy life, but you do not have to be skinny. Be strong, healthy, and fit. Take the body you are in and make it stronger don’t work about being a certain size. Yes, that can help motivate you, but it should not be the only thing. And most of all, do not kick yourself if you can’t achieve a certain size or weight. Set small attainable goals and adjust them as you reach them.

Embrace that awesomeness that is you. Don’t ever let anyone say that a certain size is beautiful. Everyone is built differently and that is okay. There is more to life then being a size 0. Skinny is one thing and strong is another. Be strong and confident.  Don’t let anyone else tell you what you should look like or what you should weigh. Healthy is what matters. Being fit is what matters. Feeling confident is what metters….Your pant size does not matter.
