Unplug and Find Yourself
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your sanity is to give yourself a break. Stress can take a toll on your body and mind. It can lead to depression and really send you down a horrible mental spiral. Once you hit this spiral it is really hard to claw your way out, but a great way to fight this is to take a mental health day. What I mean by this is to take a day to just focus on you. A major part of this requires you to turn off your cellphone. It has gotten to the point where everyone has a cellphone and they check it a million times a day. Even in restaurant you see people on their phones instead of enjoying each others company. Yes, having your cellphone is important, but do you really need to see your friends millionth Facebook post of her poodle in a sweater?
My point is that it is important to take a day where you don’t work, or go to school, or have a million and one things to do. Schedule time for yourself to just sit and relax, or a day where you can do an activity you really enjoy. Go outside and go for a walk, or finish that book you have been dying to read, whatever you choose make sure that the focus is 100% on you. All your problems and stresses will be there when you get back, but you do not need to carry them with you everywhere that you go. There are things in life that are out of your control and no amount of worrying will change that, so don’t let them overwhelm you. Allow yourself time to be in the moment. To take a break from everyone and everything, even if it is only an hour. In the words of Van Wilder “don’t take life so seriously, you will never get out alive.” In other words don’t stress your life away. In the long run all you will remember are the good times so make sure that you have plenty of them to remember.
