Walking Dead Meets Working Out
I will admit it, I have an addiction to the Walking Dead. I watch it every single Sunday with Chris, even if we are apart. I am not joking we sit, watch, and text during the show. Usually there are 5 commercials during the hour-long show and well one day a light bulb went on. Why not use these commercial breaks to work out? Well I did, but not only is it a workout, it is preparation for fighting off zombies 🙂 The way that this works is that during the show you relax like normal but as soon as you see a commercial you start to work out. You will continue to do each individual workout during the commercial breaks and relaxing
During the first commercial break you start with punches…pretend that you are surrounded by zombies and are clearing out a space. Punch with your left hand and then your right, and shift your weight around like you are closing in the gaps between you and the zombies. Do not stop until the commercial break is over.
During the next commercial break you will do a front kick, side kick, and back kick (do this one each side). Continue this during the second commercial. The best motivation here is that the zombies are closing in on you and your only hope is to kick them away from you.
During the next commercial you are going to do the ax chop. Reach your hands above you and as you “chop” down go across your body. Do two on each side and then do the chops on the opposite side of your body. Same as before make sure that you continue to do this during the commercial break. NO need to get graphic with this explanation…Lets just say you are pretending to chop “something down” 🙂
The next exercise is called under the fence. With this exercise you are squatting down, shifting like you are trying to get under a fence and popping back up. It was hard finding a good picture of this one. While you do this exercise make sure that you flex your core so that you get the best results from this exercise. Like before continue doing this for the duration of the commercial.
Your final exercise is the bicycle kick. You will lay down on the ground (in this scenario you have been knocked down onto the ground by a zombie) and kick your feet out in front of you one at a time. Bring your knee to your chest before you extend your heel to kick out in front of you. For added intensity try and do this exercise as fast as you can, but make sure you listen to your body. Make sure you control your kicks so that you do not hurt yourself. Not only is this working out your lower abs but you are also working out your thighs and of course preparing you to fight off zombies. Now you are ready to watch this wonderful show, work on your cardio, and get an intense workout all in the comfort of your own home.
